There are a lot of strong anime characters each with their own characteristic powers and abilities, these abilities give them great strength and power yet there are still characters without any such abilities but are still considered great warriors, some even in their verse. some of them are: 10. Suzaku there's no denying the fact that Suzaku was a force to behold, even without powers of geass he is still considered one of, if not the best pilot in the series. he can easily destroy most enemies through the use of his Lancelot. he does have some anger issues and an inability to commit crime therefore he is positioned low on this list. even still he is a force to behold. 9. Brawler Now... not many people might know about this guy, as he isn't as mainstream as the others. quick introduction: Brawler is a criminal in the anime series known as Akudama Drive. He is considered one of the most dangerous criminals (akudama) known to have the best fighting ability amongst...
According to oxford plot armor is referred to
the phenomenon in fiction whereby the main character is allowed to survive dangerous situations because they are needed for the plot to continue.
I would define plot amour as the necessary shielding of a character for the continuity of the story.
it's like the grace of the fictional world
while plot amour might be seen as "not needed" it is extremely important for the story to go on.
afterall you can't have an anime without the main character.
Plot armor doesn't just work for the main character, it also works for every character of significance in the series.
for instance, you'd see a situation where other characters would fall like flies or die in an unexpected situation but for some reason, the main character seems to be safe or untouched. another instance might be the case where a situation that might have killed any other character would somehow give the said character abilities instead. at times it might not even be a matter of life and death, it might just be powerups. Anime characters at times get unnecessary powerups like it's nothing just so that they could defeat the enemy
Examples of plot armor
some examples of where these have happened are:
1. Natsu uses the power of friendship to win battles
2. No one dies in bleach; apparently this is a common one, fans have been on about how people don't die in bleach, and everyone seems to survive one way or the other even if it doesn't suit the situation.
3. Goku's powerups are just too convenient
How plot amour affects anime
yes... plot amour can seem a bit bland and unfair but it does have its function. it might be that the villain just needed enough hype or that the writer has other plans that could benefit the story.
The writers themselves are a big influence on how a story goes, we see that plot amour can be played masterfully, and the introduction of powerups or survival situations can happen in a way that takes our mind off the plot amour.
so... basically plot amour structures an anime and gives it the opportunity for growth and further development.
